Beautiful Bengal

A weekend at Taki – Maach, mishti and more

Taki is a cosy and quiet retreat, just a two-hour drive from the city. It is situated 73 km northeast of Calcutta, in North 24-Parganas, bordering Bangladesh. After crossing Science City, as you drive down Basanti Road cross the Bantala Leather Complex, the landscape starts changing from urban to semi-urban and finally to rural. Dariapur - No lighthouse too far!

My earliest recollections of annual family travel plans involve numerous preludes in the form of emotionally charged pleas to my parents to pick a destination that had a lighthouse. Several years later, when I was in the seventh standard, it finally happened – we visited Chennai. Need I spell out where I headed as soon as we landed? The lighthouse on Marina beach, of course!
