Remembering Mother Teresa on her 105th birth anniversary

August 26, 2015

Today is the 105th birth anniversary of Mother Teresa. On this day in 1910 was born the founder of the Missionaries of Charity, active in over 130 countries. It runs hospices and homes for people with leprosy, tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS, soup kitchens, dispensaries and mobile clinics, children's and family counselling programmes, orphanages, and schools.

Here are 10 inspirational sayings of Mother Teresa.

  • I alone cannot change the world, but I can cast a stone across the waters to create many ripples.
  • If you judge people, you have no time to love them.
  • Never worry about numbers. Help one person at a time and always start with the person nearest you.
  • It is easy to love the people far away. It is not always easy to love those close to us. It is easier to give a cup of rice to relieve hunger than to relieve the loneliness and pain of someone unloved in our home. Bring love into your home for this is where our love for each other must start.
  • If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.
  • Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.
  • At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received how much money we have made, how many great things we have done. We will be judged by "I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was naked and you clothed me. I was homeless, and you took me in."
  • Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.
  • When you don't have anything, then you have everything.
  • Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.
