Mashima Malpo Khamu

August 26, 2015

"Mashima Malpo Khamu!" – Those who have watched Share Chuattor, a rib-tickling Bengali comedy, would surely be able to relate to this catchphrase, immortalised by an actor who's become synonymous with comedy. If a snap poll is conducted among Bengali cine-lovers on their favourite comedian in Bangla cinema, Bhanu Bandopadhyay would be ranked second to none.

Born in Dhaka on August 26, 1920, the actor moved to Kolkata in the 1940s, and has been a symbol of the 'Bangal' (people from East Bengal) community. Teamed up with Jahar Roy, Bhanu has delivered several humorous films, where Jahar Roy would inadvertently play the 'Ghoti' (original residents of West Bengal).

In his illustrious career, Bhanu has not only acted, but also produced and directed several plays; his comedy audio clips sold like hot cakes at one point in history. Not only entertaining, his sarcastic comedy often reflected what was wrong with the society during that era.

Take a laughing break from your workaday blues with some of Bhanu Bandopadhyay's epic comedy clips in this video below.
