Have you ever
dreamt of watching a film in an aquatic cinema hall, where the fountains act as
the screen? In case you did, your dreams will soon come true. Very soon you
will be able to experience the joy of watching a film under the starry night
sky, in the city of joy.
Eco Park in
Rajarhat is going to present the largest floating fountain in India for light
and sound show and will double up as a movie screen. Towards the end of
December, West Bengal’s chief minister is going to inaugurate several new
addendums to the Eco Park; the list includes this fountain.
The fountain will
nearly be 90 m in height, built without any foundation or permanent structure.
It will be used for light and sound shows every day. Occasionally, high-density
movies will be screened by back projection.
According to
HIDCO, this special fountain will be inaugurated on 27th December. The
chief minister will attend a special screening of the film ‘Chander Pahar’ on
the day of inauguration.
According to
Debasis Sen, the Chairman cum Managing Director of HIDCO, “The fountain project
was the chief minister’s brainchild; the fountain is being constructed under
HIDCO’s supervision. The jutted out machine parts above water may not look good
in the broad daylight, so we are taking steps to cover it in a beautiful
manner.”
However, films will
not be screened on a regular basis initially and light and sound shows will be
the prime attraction. Nevertheless, this will be a great new year’s gift for
the people of Kolkata.
