For the last few years, photography enthusiasts in Serampore have had the good fortune of having an outlet for their creativity. Serampore Foto Focus, through its annual competitions and exhibitions, has been providing a platform for them to display their works as well as enrich themselves with new ideas.
Now a well-known name among budding photographers and photo enthusiasts, Serampore Foto Focus started its journey in 2010 with the aim of creating an organisation for photographers, budding photographers and photo enthusiasts to enrich their knowledge with the latest creative findings in commercial and non-commercial photography. It also aims to serve the field of photography for better cause. It held its first exhibition-cum-competition in its very first year.
Making waves nationally
From December 28-31 last year, the organisation successfully conducted the 1st All India Digital Photographic Salon 2013-2014 in Serampore, titled ‘Camera-O-Aamra’. Works of photographers from across the country were exhibited at the event.
The response to the competition was quite encouraging with 2000 submissions, out of which 578 were accepted. There were three categories - open colour, monochrome and travel, under which the photographs were accepted. Visitors of all ages thronged the venue on all four days of the exhibition.
The exhibition was inaugurated by renowned photojournalist Shymal Maitra.
Talented bunch of photographers
Serampore Foto Focus has been doing a yeoman service for the last few years. It conducts lectures, seminars, workshops, photographic outings and exhibitions on regular basis for members.
The first salon was organised in 2011 to show the talent of the young photographers of Serampore subdivision. It expanded in 2012 to include submissions from Hoogly district. In 2013 it held a salon in March which exhibited some of the best works of a few renowned photographers of Kolkata. The 2013 salon was inaugurated by renowned press photographer, Subroto Patronobis.
The December show-cum-competition was its first all-India event.
