In conversation with Mithun Chakraborty

February 22, 2014

The chain-smashing rebellious hero of the silver screen will not be seen in the political arena. In his first interview to ABP Ananda after being elected a Rajya Sabha MP, Mithun Chakraborty has made this much clear. According to him, “My leader is Mamatadi. I will follow her devotedly. I am not one to cross over to the other side.” Though new to parliamentary politics, Mithun is aware that because of his star status his comments carry a lot of heft.  Hence he has made it clear he would keep off from reacting on sensitive issues, like those relating to Shiladitya Chowdhury or Anubroto Mondal, on his own volition. “Under no circumstances would I express my opinion on such topics.”

According to Mithin, he is a believer in the credo of giving unquestioned loyalty for the sake of party discipline. “I believe in political discipline. If you want to follow rules then follow them in their entirety.”

He also said, “I believe in working according to portfolio. Unless my leader tells me herself, I will not part with my views. Only if I am made a party spokesperson will I speak about TMC.” Even with the Mamata-centric structure of the party he is perfectly at ease. “I know some say that within the party only one person’s views matter, the others are mere bystanders. However I believe that too many cooks spoil the broth. Hence, if Mamatadi is capable of taking the right decisions all by herself, then where is the problem?”

Mithun Chakraborty says that as far as chief ministers go, Mamata Banerjee is the ultimate. Her aggressive personality is the need of the hour for Bengal.
