Mohor Kunja is one of the most popular parks in Kolkata. Earlier called Citizens’ Park, it was renamed Mohor Kunja as a tribute to Mohor di, as Rabindrasangeet exponent Kanika Bandyopadhyay was known to family and friends.
Now that popularity is soon to become many times more thanks to a unique initiative by Kolkata Municipal Corporation – a water laser show, a first for eastern India. Currently, Akshardham Temple in Gandhinagar, Gujarat and Bagul Bagh at Sahakarnagar in Pune, Maharashtra are the only two places where you can see such a thing in India.
The water emanating from the fountain would act as the screen for this unique laser show. According to a KMC engineer, the installation cost of the project has been estimated at Rs 4-5 crore.
Mohor Kunja already has five musical fountains which are a big attraction. The plan is to transform those very fountains as the ones for the water laser show. For this, KMC is in talks with Premier World Musical Fountain, which had installed the fountains.
KMC is hoping to complete this project soon. Kolkatans as well as tourists to Kolkata would soon have another beautiful and unique attraction to visit.
