Kolkata Christmas Festival - The season of joy

Kolkata Christmas Festival - The season of joy

December 16, 2014

That time of the year has come when all roads in the city - and beyond - leads to Park Street to bear witness to the largest festive season carnival in the eastern part of the country. The festival is set to begin on sixteenth of this month and continue till 2 January, 2015.

The carnival which stretched between Free School Street and Camac Street crossing, last year was the first of its kind, and the brainchild of the Chief Minister and the state of Bengal who organized the ‘Kolkata Christmas Festival’, which added a new experience to the already buzzing city of joy. The festival was also inaugurated by her and held in high regards for the city which celebrates all festivals with equivalent fervour.

Starting from 16 December evening, there will be live entertainment, of which carol songs will be the main highlight of the festival. To tinkle the taste buds and to satisfy gastronomic tourists and visitors, the festival put up 25 food counters in front of Park Mansion. The food stalls will serve mouth-watering delicacies from other states, be it North Indian, South Indian and Gujarati dishes or delicacies like momos and thukpas from North-Eastern states. There will be elaborate spread of Bengali sweets as well.

The idea behind organising the Kolkata Christmas Festival is to spread the warmth of the celebration to the occupants of the city.  Christmas carols, choir, light and sound exhibition, rock music, shimmering lights, delectable food - these are the myriad nuances of Christmas Celebration at Park Street in Kolkata. Christmas in Kolkata cannot be complete without an illuminated Park Street and a mad jostle to get into one of the famed restaurants at the city's entertainment hub. Kolkata will be swinging to the Yuletide spirit like never before this winter. The city's entertainment hub will usher in December with a unique Christmas Carnival, bringing together different communities through music, food and carols at a street mela.

Sharing happiness at the festival

The idea is to create a atmosphere of festivity around the city and the best way to this was to play Christmas Carols sung in English and Bengali on the public address creating that mesmerizing feel around park Street and Camac Street. The city wish is decked up with decorative items which emit the exuberance of this festivity.

Celebrate the spell of Christmas festival as it isn't a season. It’s a feeling.
