The Great Eastern Bakery made a historic comeback at New Market on December 17. The historic bakery store was inaugurated by Mayor Sovon Chatterjee.
The bakery store traces its history to 50 years back when it stood at the market with all its glory and sheen. Renamed as "The Lalit Great Eastern Bakery", the store now stocks an assortment of cookies, breads, plum cakes, fruit cakes, minced pies, puffs and so on.
Saying that the timing is correct for the re-opening of the shop as it is just before Christmas, Mr Subhojit Sengupta, Food and Beverage Manager, The Lalit Great Eastern, said: “It is before Christmas we get maximum footfall as it is that time of the year when people crave for plum cakes, fruit cakes and we come with all those Christmas must haves."
Once hailed as "The Bread Basket of the East", Lalit Great Eastern Bakery is all set to cater to the taste buds of all strata of the society.
With most of the bakery shops shutting down in the market for some reason or the other, there was no food option beyond Nahoum's. With the comeback of the store, there will be a fresh breath of air for the food lovers in the area.
