After a football ground, a jogging track and a dedicated area for morning walkers, New Town in Rajarhat will soon get a meditation-cum-yoga centre that will resemble the Upasana Griha (meditation centre) of Tagore’s Santiniketan.
“The centre will be located beside the tree bank and a water body. Up to 25 people will be able to meditate and take yoga classes in each session,” claims the chairman of the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) to a leading press in the city.
Chief architects are working on the design. Membership and entry fee will be decided later, but membership will be open to all. Like the original, this too will be called Upasana Griha.
It will be open through the year and classes will be held on yoga and meditation. These will be arranged by NKDA. The ambiance set will be of superior quality and we hopes to draw a lot of people to the yoga house.
The NKDA has come up with several amenities to meet the demands of residents and tourists.
A lively and vibrant community is going to be created to draw the youth of the city to this griha. At present, people visit Eco Park, where they can jog, go for a morning walk, indulge in boating and angling and visit the butterfly park, where also duo-cycling has already gained popularity. The New Town development team also plans to build a swimming pool, a gym, a cricket ground, a basketball court and a tennis court too. They are hoping all the facilities, including the Upasana Griha, will be ready by the end of 2015.
A report from the National Institute for the Smart City Project of New Town has been received. The report has proposed a citizen-centric approach. The final plan will be drawn up after consultations with residents and other stakeholders.
