Destination Rajarhat New Town

October 27, 2013

Rajarhat New Town has a certain buzz around it. Be it the tall structures or the stately roads, it takes no time to understand that it is developing into becoming the most “happening” place in Eastern India.

Growing the clean and green way

The government of West Bengal has a bouquet of plans prepared for this new township. Rajarhat New Town has been divided into “Action Areas” that would help development to take place in a scientific and orderly manner rather than in a haphazard manner. Conserving the aesthetics of the place is of prime importance. Green initiatives are being encouraged for this new wonder town. Water bodies are being preserved with an earnest zeal.

Just a few weeks back, the plan to develop Rajarhat into a solar city was approved by the Central government. The state government is providing incentives to developers who are promoting solar energy. This would save a strain on conventional energy and help maintain a balance in the ecology of the place.

Already Eco Tourism Park has become the talk of the town. Now “Banglar Haat” is being planned right next to it to showcase handicrafts of West Bengal. Artisans and crafts man from distant villages to would find a great platform to sell their ware. The location is strategic as well since it is close to the airport and will attract tourists.

Future initiatives for a buzzing hub

The state government has announced an Eden Garden like stadium in the area and it is likely to come up in Action Area II D. The news met with a loud cheer from the citizens of the state. While Eden Gardens is a historic ground and compares to none in the cricketing world, a new modern stadium at Rajarhat would only be treat for the sports lovers.

Action area 1 is all set to get a permanent fair ground. Come winter and Kolkata gets transformed into “fair-land” and Milan Mela alone is not enough for these events which keep growing every year. With a bigger and better fair ground the state might be able to attract national events.

Green corridors and parks have been planned sprinkled across the new township. What is heartening to note, is the plan to have a senior citizen park in the area. This shows that everyone is being kept in mind while development is being planned for this new township.

Other developments planned are community markets that are to come up in all action areas of the township. Post offices for each of the zones are also being considered. An idol immersion “ghat” was inaugurated recently keeping the necessities of the people living in the area.

Fascinating tourist hub

The kilometer long subway with ten entry and exit points at Nababpur in Rajarhat New Town area boasts of being the longest in the eastern side of the country. It has been built keeping pedestrians and their safety in mind. Railings are being put in place on the side of the road to ensure that people do not stray onto roads which have fast moving cars.

Rabi Tirtha is already a great tourist attraction. Nazrul Tirtha would also be ready soon. The first only steel structure home is coming up in Rajarhat though by a private company but is in tune with the “newness” and innovation of the township. Beautification and development are proceeding in a synchronized manner. The idea is to have both and not just one.

Great emphasis is being given to the infrastructure of the place. Roads to and from Rajarhat New Town are to be strengthened to provide a delightful experience to the travelers. Connectivity is also being improved. As M3.tv had reported earlier, an international bus terminal is also in place at Rajarhat.

This explains the reason for real estate prices soaring in the area. A premium township such as Rajarhat New Town will attract premium rates. The place is shaping up to becoming a model township and it is only a matter of time when everybody would want a Rajarhat New Town address.

Thank you for reporting on this. I go to Rajarhat for work regularly and am surprised at the amount of development. But I never see the press coverage for this.
